Wheatus
Formed in 1995, Wheatus is an alternative rock band fronted by Brendan B. Brown.
∙ “Teenage Dirtbag,” their signature song and first single, was a global hit, going two-times Platinum in the UK and hitting No. 82 on Australian station Triple J’s Hottest 100 of 20 Years list.
∙ The chorus to “Teenage Dirtbag” paid tribute to Iron Maiden, whose singer, Bruce Dickinson, returned the favor by appearing on 2002’s “Wannabe Gangstar.”
∙ In 2003 the band left Columbia Records to start their label, Montauk Mantis, and have been releasing material on their own ever since.
∙ Soul Coughing’s Mike Doughty invited Wheatus to be his backing band in 2019 to re-create the album Ruby Vroom live.
∙ Wheatus embarked on their first world tour in 20 years in 2019, doing two sets each night: one with the band’s current lineup and another with the original members.
